Snapchat subscribers can now use AI to generate or extend images within the app

Engadget

Generative AI is nothing new for Snapchat users, with the app's "My AI" suite offering the likes of a free ChatGPT-powered chatbot, as well as the freemium AI-generated "Dreams" selfie effects, Bitmoji backgrounds and more. In the latest update, Snapchat subscribers can now leverage AI to extend images -- or "zoom out" -- at the click of a button, thus making the social media app even more practical. Say you have a snapshot of your pet but it's a little too close, just click on the crop button on the right menu, and then hit the "Extend" button at the bottom. The updated My AI also lets subscribers directly generate Snaps by typing a simple prompt. In the viewfinder, click the "AI" button on the right, then type in whatever you desire (within reason, of course), and shortly, you'll have an image to tinker with before sharing.

Snapchat enables video and stories embeds

Engadget

Snapchat has rolled out two new features, including the ability to embed content from the platform into a website. This will automatically copy the code -- just as competitors like Instagram and TikTok have long allowed users to do. Following years of trying to broaden from just a platform to send pictures back and forth with friends, the option to embed is a logical next step from Snapchat. It builds on other features like articles and discovering local places of interest and, in 2022, Snapchat for Web. Along with embeds, Snapchat has also launched an OpenAI-powered feature that lets users extend their snaps to include more of their possible surroundings.

Snapchat AI chatbot allegedly gave advice to 13-year-old girl on relationship with 31-year-old man, having sex

FOX News

Fox News correspondent CB Cotton has the latest on calls for accountability for social media apps after parents say Snapchat helped facilitate drug sales on'Special Report.' A new artificial intelligence created by Snapchat has allegedly offered some dubious advice to what it thought was a 13-year-old girl, detailing, among other things, how to cover up bruises for a meeting with Child Protective Services (CPS) and how to lie to parents about a trip with a 31-year-old man. Tristan Harris, the co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology, recently posted a Twitter thread highlighting an exchange between colleague Aza Raskin and the new chatbot "My AI." Raskin, who set up the Snapchat account posing as a 13-year-old girl, told the chatbot she had met someone 18 years older than her but conveyed she felt "very comfortable with him." "It's great to hear that you feel comfortable," the chatbot responded, later suggesting the user remain "safe" and "cautious." After revealing that the trip would coincide with her thirteenth birthday, Raskin said she was thinking about having sex for the first time.
